One beautiful spring day my daughter and I were walking in a huge field, a field that we would later be building our home on. We were talking about life, nature, famiy and picking flowers. Later we lied down on the ground looking up at the clouds and this melody just popped into my head.
Oh Hallie & the big blue sky, oh Hallie & the big blue, oh Hallie and the big blue sky, I love you.
The idea for the last word sequence in the song was Haillie's.
The verses are filled with all the amazing things I was fortunate enough to do in 2010. Including getting flown to New York and L.A. to play music. Along the way I met a lot of amazing people and shared a lot of amazing experiences. Too many to fit in a song. Everytime I found myself having the time of my life I would think about how I wish my family was there, and start singing those same 4 lines to myself.
Oh Hallie and the big blue sky
Oh Hallie and the big blue
O Hallie and the big blue sky
I love you
So when trying to finish the song and put verses to these lines, it just made sense to put the two events together. Oh, and Hallie at the time was 3 1/2 and she called New York, Yew Nork, so I say it in the song like that on purpose.
lyrics
Oh Hallie and the big blue sky
Oh Hallie and the big blue
O Hallie and the big blue sky
I love you
I took a plane ride out to L.A.
I took a plane ride to the moon
I touched down at the LAX, I played a show at the VIper Room
A show at the Viper Room, Hollywood & Sunset
I took the train down to Diego
I took a train down to the bay
I played a show with my amigo (Josh Damigo)
And with an old friend I did stay, a good friend I did stay
Chilling out, relaxing, cooking out, drinking, smoking, up in the El Cajon Hills
I'd sure like to spend more time with you Michael
But, it just don't pay the bills, California dreaming
Oh Hallie and the big blue sky
Oh Hallie and the big blue
O Hallie and the big blue sky
I love you
I took a big bit of the apple
I took a big bite of the tree
I took a plane ride out to Yew Nork
I'd laid my hat down in Long Beach
I hung my hat up in Long beach
Me and my friends we paint the town there
We paint the town just like we should
Upper East Side
All the way down to Harlem, baby Brooklyn's my favorite neighborhood
Brooklyn know I mean it
Oh Hallie and the big blue sky
Oh Hallie and the big blue
Oh Hallie baby, don't you cry
I love you
I love you in the morning
I'll call you in the afternoon
I miss you in the evening
I love you, I'll se you soon
